Natural Gas

Northern Gas Networks

Northern Gas Networks

Country: United Kingdom | Sector: Gas Distribution | Acquisition Date: August 2011

NGN is responsible for distributing gas to homes and businesses across the north of England, an area covering West, East & North Yorkshire, the North East and northern Cumbria.

Our network comprises of 37,000km of gas pipes, that’s enough to travel from Leeds to Sydney, Australia, and back again.

We do not own the gas; we transport it on behalf of the companies who do, delivering it to users 24 hours every day.

Northern Gas Networks is an essential element in the daily heartbeat of the region. We take extremely seriously our responsibilities as the provider of the fuel of choice; we aim to provide the best in customer service and to add value in all our activities. The gas distribution business in Britain has been restructured by dividing the once natural monopoly operation owned by National Grid (NG) into eight regional distribution networks.

The consortium which owns Northern Gas Networks Limited was successful in acquiring the North of England Distribution Network (DN) and took over the control of the assets on 1 June, 2005.
